====== AN/GRC-26 radio teletype system ====== Produced by various U.S. manufacturers. The high-performance AN/GRC-26 radio teletype station was used by the U.S. Army in different configurations and was also used by the German Armed Forces after 1956. In addition to a transmitter, the station equipment included two receivers and two teleprinters with the necessary accessories, which were usually housed in a shelter on a lorry. The predecessor station in the Second World War was the SCR-299 / SCR-399 radio station, which was introduced in Switzerland as SM 46 or SE-402. ===== Technical data ===== * Principle: Radio station with separate receivers and transmitters * Operation modes: A1, A2, AM (A3), F1B, F2b (FSK) * Frequency range: SW (2 - 18 MHz) * Frequency display: Analogue dial * Frequency memory: none * Signal strength indicator: S-meter * Signal processing: * Features: * Sensitivity: AM (A3) / Selectivity: kHz (-6/-60 dB) ==== Power supply ==== * Mains operation]]: 115 V, from mains or generator PE-95 ==== Dimensions ==== * mm, weight kg ==== Accessories ==== * HS-30 headphones or LS-3 loudspeaker * Hand-held microphone T-17 or dynamic microphone T-50 * Knee morse key J-45 ---- ===== Station material ===== The equipment of the shortwave teletype station is housed in a shelter on a offroad truck; the original sets were replaced in various stages. ==== AN/GRC-26 (1950) ==== * Transmitter BC-610 (-F or -G) or T-213; 2 - 18 MHz, 400 watts * Frequency converter O-39/TRA-7; 2 - 6 MHz (frequency shift exciter) * BC-614 modulation amplifier * Antenna tuning unit BC-939-A * Two receivers BC-342 or R-336 * Diversity adaptor CV-31B/TRA-7 * Two teleprinters TT-55, one teleprinter TT-56 with tape punch * C-292 teleprinter connection device * Whip antenna 4.5 m or dipole antenna * Frequency meter BC-221 ==== AN/GRC-26A / B / C (1956) ==== * Transmitter BC-610 (-H or -I); 2 - 18 MHz, 400 Watt * Frequency converter O-39B/TRA-7; 2 - 6 MHz (frequency shift exciter, transmitter side) * BC-614 modulation amplifier * Antenna tuning unit BC-939-B * Two Collins receivers R-388A * frequency converter CV-182 (440 - 510 kHz) (FSK converter, receiver side) * one teleprinter TT-4A * C-808 teleprinter connection set * Whip antenna 4.5 m or dipole antenna * BC-221 frequency meter The A version of the AN/GRC-26 radio teletype station was supplied to the early Bundeswehr in 1956; the SCR-506 and AN/GRC-9 sets were often used to communicate with. ==== AN/GRC-26D (1956) ==== * Transmitter T-368; 1.5 - 20 MHz, 400 - 450 Watt * MD-239 frequency converter (frequency shift exciter, transmitter side) * Antenna matching device BC-939-B * Two Collins receivers R-390A * frequency converter CV-116B (frequency shift converter, receiver side) * Two TT-98 teleprinters, one TT-76 teleprinter with hole punch * Whip antenna 4.5 m or dipole antenna In the D version, the AN/GRC-26 radio teletype station with the modernised T-368 transmitter and two R-390A receivers was introduced around 1962. ===== Technical principle ===== Radio teletype station with one transmitter, two receivers, one FSK modulator and one FSK modem, two teletypewriters and one teletypewriter / tape punch. ==== Components ==== The station is fully equipped with tubes. ===== Technical documentation ===== ==== Development ==== ==== Further information ==== * AN/GRC-26 on the website of www.radionerds.com
