====== Nordmende Globetrotter TN 6000 ====== Manufactured by Nordmende, Bremen. The variant "Globetrotter TN6000" was sold in the years 68/69. The set can be recognized by its square band selector keys. The set has a band spread dial directly calibrated in frequencies. ===== Technical data ===== * Principle: Single conversion superhet, IF 460 kHz / FM 10.7 MHz * Operation modes: AM (A3), FM (F3) * Frequency range: FM broadcast band, LW, MW, MB, 11 x SW (80 / 61 / 59 / 49 / 41 / 31 / 25 / 19 / 16 / 13 / 11 m) * Frequency display: Analogue dial, calibrated band spread dials * Frequency memory: none * Signal strength indicator: S-meter * Signal processing * Features: * Sensitivity: AM (A3) MW 6 μV, LW 12 μV, SW 1.2 - 9 μV / Selectivity: 3.2 kHz (-6/-60 dB) ==== Power supply ==== * Mains operation: 110, 220 V * Batteries: 5 x 1.5 V (UM-1) ==== Dimensions ==== * 310 x 210 x 105 mm, weight 4.3 kg ==== Accessories ==== ===== Operation ===== The Nordmende Globetrotter TN6000 is a single conversion radio with 11 spread shortwave bands in addition to the longwave, mediumwave and FM broadcast bands. The set has an analogue display, and the band spread dial on this version has for the first time a frequency calibration of the bandspread dials, making it easier to tune it to a desired reception frequency. The Globetrotter TN6000 is a portable receiver measuring 31 x 21 x 10.5 cm. The controls and dials are located on the top face of the receiver, the large loudspeaker in the front of the unit. This late version of the "Globetrotter" has rectangular band keys, the band spread dials visible in the viewing window are directly calibrated in frequencies for the selected range. On the front panel, below the telescopic antenna and the small signal strength meter on the left, are the volume control combined with power on and the rotary controls for treble and bass; when they are pressed, the dial illumination is activated or the battery level is displayed. Seven square push-buttons above the dial activate (from the left) the AFC (automatic frequency correction in Fm mode), the narrow and wide IF band filters in the AM ranges, the FM broadcast band, the shortwave Ranges (BANDS), the maritime communications band(marked S), mediumwave and the longwave. The upper tuning knob tunes the FM broadcast band and the SML ranges. The lower knob is the bandspread shortwave band selector and the tuning for the spread band is done with the outside ring. On the rear side, there is a compartment for 5 UM-1 batteries, and a 7.5 V power supply unit can be connected via connectors on the right face of the set. In contrast to the older "Globetrotter" models, the TN6001 has an integrated 110/220 V power supply unit; the mains connector is located in a connection panel. Here you will also find the sockets for external antenna / earth and a DIN audio socket. The operation is uncomplicated: Turn the radio on using the volume control, select the bandspread SW ranges with the BANDS button, turn with the inner part of the lower tuning knob until the 49 m band range becomes visible in the dial window of the turret tuner, then locate the Radio Austria Intl. on 6155 kHz at the corresponding position between the 6.1 and 6.2 (MHz) markings. Even the Nordmende Globetrotter TN6000 - at the end of the sixties it was a first-class travel radio - is nowadays only considered a collector's item. It can still be used to listen to local FM broadcasts, and it is fun to hunt for the stronger signals of the international foreign services within the shortwave bands. Serious Dxing is out of the question due to the insufficient frequency dial accuracy, as is the reception of amateur radio or even radioteletype services as the set comes without a BFO. ===== Technical principle ===== Single conversion superhet, turret tunes with spread shortwave bands. ==== Components ==== The set is equipped with semiconductors. ===== Technical documentation ===== * , Service Manual ==== Development ==== ==== Further information ==== * Nordmende Globetrotter TN 6000 on www.radiomuseum.org
