Tube equipped receivers from Rohde & Schwarz
The Munich-based company Rohde & Schwarz is one of the very big manufacturers of communications equipment and has an excellent reputation in the field of aircraft radio as well as in the development of VHF broadcasting equipment.
With the heavyweight EK07 receiver, Rohde & Schwarz cought up with the communications receivers from Collins, on the one hand in terms of performance, and on the other hand also in terms of the dimensions and weight of the set. It was followed by the receivers EK047 / EK 049, which came a digital frequency display using Nixie tubes. These sets which were also sold by Siemens under a different designation. Rohde & Schwarz became one of the world leaders in communications receivers for commercial and military use, when the EK070 was introduced in 1979. The EK085 and the digitally controlled sets of the EK890 series were the successors. The EK896 with DSP technology is still in operation in monitoring stations at commercial radio services.
