U.S. Armed Forces equipment
The wireless equipment of the U.S. Armed Forces usually bear designations for the set itself and designations for equipment sets consisting of various individual units, such as complete radio stations.
American equipment was widely used in many Allied countries and throughout Western Europe after the end of World War II, when U.S. equipment was sold cheaply as surplus.
Nomenclature of U.S. Military Materiel
- U.S. Army - Equipment until 1943/53: In the designation system of the U.S. Army, SCR-xxx stands for a complete set of equipment („Set Complete Radio“), the components had their own designations, for example BC-xxx for „Basic Component“, PE-xxx for „Power Unit“, DM-xxx for „Dynamotor“, VT-xxx for „Vacuum Tube“.
- U.S. Navy - Equipment until 1943/53; In the U.S.Navy, receivers were designated R-xxx and transmitter as T-xxx.
