Travel portables from Siemens
Manufactured by Sangean, distributed under the Siemens label.
Mainly in Germany, the travel receivers from Sangean's factories, which were popular because of their favourable price-performance ratio, were introduced carrying the Siemens label. Siemens representatives at trade fairs emphasized, that the sets carrying the Siemens label were technically improved - but most probably, the improvements were mainly about the beautiful black and gold design. In any case, in everyday reception practice, no significant difference in reception performance was noticeable, only the price tag compared to the original Sangean sets was considerable.
The era of the Siemens world receivers began with the RK-651, the successor to the early microprocessor- controlled Sony ICF-2001, especially in the improved version with two IF bandwidths. The RK-670, corresponding to the Sangean ATS-818CS with it's built-in cassette recorder, also quickly gained popularity. The RK-777, based on the Sangean ATS-909 with its alphanumeric memory management and RDS-capable FM section, was the subject of hopes after the first press announcements, but shortly after the launch of the receiver, Siemens announced its withdrawal from the home electronics sector. At least a direct importer of the Sangean sets was found in Germany shortly after.
